Lightning takes tourney title

The Newport Lightning Basketball Club’s 12-and-under boys’ team won the South Coast OC Slam Tournament last weekend after beating Team PD, Supreme Court (San Diego), Shoreline and Pro Skills.

The NLBC’s defense was dominant in all four games holding the opponents to an average of 29.6 points.

The offense flowed well as the crisp passing led to numerous scoring opportunities for the team who ended the month of January going 9-2 in tournament games.

John Humphreys, Jack Rettig, Cade Overfelt and Jack McKenna led the team in scoring while Luke Bashore, Clay Liolios and Haig Mavusi manned the paint and led the team in rebounding and blocked shots.

Nic Ayala and Luke Hatfield provided tremendous defense and some great clutch shooting throughout the weekend.

The NLBC is coached by Scott Stucki and will resume play in a few weeks.
