High School Roundup: Sailors’ Seabold shines in win

Newport Harbor 3, Marina 2

Connor Seabold improved to 3-1 with a gem and also delivered a clutch hit to lead the Sailors to the Sunset League win Friday at Marina.

Seabold, a senior right-handed pitcher bound for Cal State Fullerton, turned in a complete-game effort that featured eight strikeouts. He gave up five hits, no walks and two runs.

In the top of the sixth inning, he belted a two-out, game-winning triple to right-center field to score Logan Mahaffy and Cameron Jabara. Mahaffy and Jabara both reached on singles.

Mahaffy went three for three, Shaun Vetrovec was two for three and Jake Norton scored a run for Newport Harbor (8-4, 2-3 in league), which committed no errors.

The Sailors play host to Huntington Beach on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m.

Corona del Mar 2, Irvine 0

Senior left-hander Brett Olson pitched a complete-game, three-hit shutout with five strikeouts and one walk to lead the Sea Kings to the Pacific Coast League win Friday at CdM.

Ryan Pierce (RBI), Olson, Nick Premer and Evan Larsen had one hit each, while Tyler Duncan drove in a run for CdM (2-10, 2-3 in league), which plays host to Woodbridge on Tuesday.

Sage Hill 10. Brethren Christian 2

Freshman Brett Super dominated on the mound with a six-inning, two-hit gem allowing no earned runs while striking out 10 to lead the Lightning to the Academy League win Friday.

Kellen Ochi went two for three with a double for Sage Hill (8-3, 3-1 in league), while Harrison Rhee was two for three with three RBIs and Brian Slaughter was two for four.

Calvary Chapel 7, Estancia 2 (eight innings)

Connor Brown pitched seven innings, striking out three and giving up three hits for Estancia in the Orange Coast League game Friday.

He got the no-decision. Calvary Chapel scored two unearned runs while he pitched.

Colin Gardner (one for four, RBI), Aaron Boaitey (one for two) and Jackson Letterman (RBI) also contributed for Estancia (5-7, 4-3 in league), which plays host to Brethren Christian Saturday at 11 a.m.

Laguna Beach 14, Costa Mesa 4

LAGUNA BEACH — Connor Howard broke up a no-hitter in the sixth inning, driving in two runs with a single Friday in the Orange Coast League game at Laguna Beach High.

Kage Kistler was one for two with an RBI for Costa Mesa (3-8, 1-5 in league). Justin Fisher walked twice and scored a run.

The Mustangs begin play in the Century tournament at home at 11 a.m. Saturday, against Santa Ana Valley.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Corona del Mar def. University

Ryan Moss had nine kills and Andrew Boukather added seven kills for the Sea Kings in their 25-6, 25-12, 25-12 Pacific Coast League win at CdM Friday.

Sam Kobrine and Kevin Fults had six kills each, Matt Ctvrtlik amassed 25 assists and Brett Shisler finished with 12 assists, two aces and one block for CdM (15-2, 5-0 in league), ranked No. 2 in CIF Southern Section Division 1.

The Sea Kings leave Monday for Honolulu to compete in the two-day, four-team Clash of the Titans showcase, which includes, Punahou, Kamehameha Hawaii and Manhattan Beach Mira Costa.

Newport Harbor def. Fountain Valley

Spencer Lujan had nine kills and five blocks to lead the Sailors to the 25-15, 25-21, 25-21 Sunset League win Friday at Newport Harbor.

Clay Carr (12 kills), Wyatt Walton (eight kills), Landon Monroe (30 assists) and Nic Sargeant (11 digs) also contributed for Newport Harbor (5-12, 2-2 in league).
