BASEBALL

UC Irvine 10, Cal State Northridge 2

Junior first baseman Connor Spencer was four for four with three runs batted in to lead the host Anteaters, who swept the three-game Big West Conference series that concluded Sunday.

UCI (24-11, 8-1 in the Big West) remained tied atop the conference with Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. The Anteaters also earned the No. 21 ranking in the Collegiate Baseball poll.

UCI starter Evan Brock earned the win and is now 6-2.

Chris Rabago was two for four with two RBIs while Grant Palmer and Jerry McClanahan both had two hits and one RBI to contribute to the ‘Eaters’ 14-hit attack.

Cal State Northridge fell to 13-22, 2-7.

SOFTBALL

Doubleheader

Vanguard settled for the split, as the Lions won the first game, 10-2, but then lost, 4-1, in Golden State Athletic Conference action Tuesday at Vanguard.

Taylor Wilson was one for two with three runs batted in for the Lions (30-20, 10-10 in conference) in the win, when Breanne Gomez went two for two with one RBI and brittany Colenzo went two for two with two RBIs and two runs scroed.

Shelby Kuryllo led Vanguard at the plate going two for three to close out the doublheader.

Orange Coast 8, Fullerton 5

Briana Magdaleno went four for four with two home runs and five runs batted in to lead the host Pirates to their third straight win at home in the Orange Empire Conference game Monday.

Katie Kendrick added two hits for OCC (9-19, 4-14 in conference).

Kellie Tiner struck out 10 to earn her ninth win of the season and drop Fullerton to 19-18, 6-12.

WOMEN’S GOLF

Big West Championship

SAN LUIS OBISPO — UC Irvine freshman Kaley In finished seventh and the Anteaters were fourth as a team at the three-day, 54-hole tournament concluded Tuesday at the San Luis Obispo Country Club.

In’s score of 225 was a career-best finish and her second top-10 finish of the season. She carded 10 birdies, which tied for the tournament lead.

Senior Ronnie Valerio tied for 13th with a score of 231, while senior Sara Banke was 17th at 233 and senior Taryn Yee was 21st at 236.

Freshman Samantha Chan tied for 33rd at 245.

UCI’s team score of 923 was 28 shots behind victorious UC Davis.

Cal State Fullerton’s Martina Edberg won the individual crown (217).

MEN’S GOLF

UC Santa Barbara Intercollegiate

SANTA BARBARA — UC Irvine junior Pete Fernandez finished seventh and the Anteaters were sixth as a team in the 54-hold event concluded Tuesday at Sandpiper Golf Club.

Fernandez carded a three-round total of 217 to earn his sixth top-10 finish of the season.

Senior Travis Russell was 17th at 220, junior Bhuvan Potluri was 31st at 224 and freshman Ryan O’Connor was 50th at 233 for the ‘Eaters.

UCI freshman Bryan Shin, competing as an individual, finished 26th at 222.

Long Beach State topped the 10-team field (869) and Sacramento State’s Owen Taylor was the medalist (four-under-par 212).

Western Intercollegiate

SANTA CRUZ — UC Irvine junior Pete Fernandez was third and the Anteaters finished ninth as a team at the 54-hole event concluded Sunday at Pasatiempo Golf Club.

Fernandez shot four-under-par 206 to earn his fifth top-five finish of the season. He shot 68 in the final round.

UCI’s Ryan Knapp, an Estancia High product, finished 26th at 214 and Ryan O’Connor was 45th at 218, to round out the Anteaters in the top 50.
