IRVINE — No. 4-seeded Vanguard University defeated No, 5-seeded Hope International, 7-0, in the first game Friday morning, then fell, 3-2, to top-seeded Concordia in the double-elimination format at Concordia.

Breanne Gomez went two for four with a home run and three runs batted in against Hope, against which Shelby Kuryllo homered and had two RBIs.

Taylor Wilson, Brittney Boggs, Haley Croce and Summer Penner all had two hits for the Lions, for whom Rachel Stalford pitched a complete-game, four-hit shutout to improve to 17-5.

Against Concordia, Gomez was three for three with one RBI and Kuryllo was two for four with one RBI. Boggs was two for three for the Lions.

Stalford allowed two earned runs to absorb the loss as Vanguard stranded 13 runners.

The Lions (33-21) face Hope International in an elimination game Friday at 11:45 a.m. at Concordia.

INDIAN WELLS — The Anteaters dropped the Big West Conference tournament quarterfinal on Thursday at Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

UCI completes its season at 11-18, while UC Davis improved to 14-10.
