El CAJON — Thomas Mobley singled and John Schwer doubled with one out in the top of the 11th inning to break a scoreless tie, while Eddie Rivera (nine innings) and Roberto Johnson (two) combined on a three-hit shutout in the opening round of the Golden State Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday at Grossmont Community College.

Schwer was two for three and Mobley was two for five to pace a seven-hit attack for the No. 22-ranked Lions (32-19), who advance to Friday’s semifinal against top-seeded and No. 7-ranked San Diego Christian at the same site at noon.

Should Vanguard win Friday, it would advance to Saturday’s final in the four-team, double-elimination tournament.

Schwer had a walk-off RBI single in the 13th inning of the Lions’ regular-season finale to earn a berth in the four-team event, in which they are the No. 3 seed.

Rivera surrendered three hits, struck out seven and walked one but was dealt a no-decision as two TMC pitchers held the Lions scoreless for 10 innings.

Johnson worked two hitless innings to earn his first win in three decisions in 2014.

The Master’s, ranked No. 12, fell to 37-15, pending a later elimination game.
