Scott Gorgen, a two-time All-American pitcher at UC Irvine who helped the Anteaters reach the 2007 College World Series, was released Friday by the
Gorgen, who missed the entire 2011 season to have arm surgery, was 0-1 with a 12.27 earned-run average for the Double-A
Earlier this season, he was 3-2 with the Palm Beach Cardinals of the Single-A Florida State League. There, he had a 4.55 ERA in 29 2/3 innings. He allowed 20 hits, struck out 23 and walked 10.
Gorgen, the 2008 Big West Conference Pitcher of the Year as a junior at UCI, who was drafted in the fourth round later that year by the Cardinals, made eight appearances, all starts, for Triple-A Memphis in 2012. He posted a 1-2 record and a 4-14 ERA, allowing 32 hits, striking out 26 and walking 19 in 37 innings at Memphis.
Also in 2012, he was 5-7 with a 4.09 ERA in 21 appearances, including 16 starts, at Springfield.
In 87 career appearances over five minor-league seasons, he was 26-24 with a 3.58 ERA in 87 appearances, including 67 starts.
