Vanguard 84, Grand View State 76

Preston Wynn scored 33 points to lead the Lions in the Vanguard Thanksgiving Tournament game Friday night at the Pit.

Wynn was 11 of 19 from the field and hit eight of his 14 three-point attempts. Chris Gorman added 15 points, DeAngelo Jones scored 13 points and Zach Allmon finished with 10 points and seven rebounds for Vanguard (6-2).

The Lions play against La Sierra Saturday at 6 p.m.

Citrus 77, Orange Coast 67

GLENDORA — Devaun Evans scored 17 points for the Pirates in the Neil Edwards Classic hosted by Citrus College Friday.

Noah Prouse added 16 points for Orange Coast (1-4).

Citrus is 3-1.

Danny Cheek, a Corona del Mar High product, scored 11 points for the Owls.

MEN’S WATER POLO

Pacific 15, UC Irvine 7

STOCKTON — Senior Mitch Wise scored four goals, but UC Irvine fell to top-seeded and tournament host Pacific in the opening game of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship Tournament Friday morning.

Senior Bojan Hrlec added a pair of goals and sophomore Pablo Carballo one for the eighth-seeded ‘Eaters (13-13).

Balazs Erdelyi scored five goals and Goran Tomasevic four for Pacific (21-3).

Erdelyi scored four times in the first quarter to help the Tigers to a 6-1 lead and Pacific led 10-3 at the half.

UCI pulled within 12-6 on a goal by Wise with 7:36 left in the fourth quarter and within six again at 13-7 on Carballo’s goal with 5:43 remaining.

The ‘Eaters will face California on Saturday at 10 a.m.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Cal Poly SLO def. UC Irvine

UC Irvine served for six match points in the fourth set but was unable to come away with the win and Cal Poly capitalized, handing the Anteaters a 17-25, 20-25, 25-21, 26-24, 17-15 Big West Conference loss Friday at the Bren Events Center.

The Anteaters and Mustangs combined for 127 digs with UCI posting 106. Arden Davis and Shelley Anderson led the team with 19 digs apiece with Anderson registering a career-high. Molly Yoder added 15 digs. Aly Squires logged 14 digs and Cassidy Pickrell also had a personal-best with 10 digs. Pickrell paced the offense with 16 kills with Shannon Fleming and Marisa Bubica putting away 13 kills each. Arielle Manz had a season-best 12 kills to go along with five total blocks and eight digs, a personal-high for the middle blocker.

UCI (14-15, 5-10 in conference) takes on UC Santa Barbara Saturday night at 7 at the Bren Center.
