High School Roundup: Mesa wins Garden Grove tourney

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Costa Mesa 60, Los Amigos 37

Seniors Daniel Azurin scored 16 points and Kyle Hefner added 14 points to help lead the Mustangs to the Garden Grove tournament title Monday.

Azurin, who grabbed eight rebounds, and Hefner earned all-tournament team honors.

Sophomore Mason Tufuga contributed 12 points and nine rebounds for Costa Mesa.

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — John O’Connor and Max Premer scored two goals each for the Sea Kings in the nonleague game Monday.

Jake Kim and Mason Garell also scored. Garell capped the scoring with an assist from Kyle Martin.

Goalie Tommy Casey led CdM on defense.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Estancia 42, Corona 27

GARDEN GROVE — Senior Celia Duran had 15 points and two steals to lead the Eagles in their first pool-play game of the Santiago tournament Monday.

Sophomore Maya Van Den Heever added six points, four assists and three streals, while senior Michelle Simmons finished with 10 points and eight rebounds for Estancia (9-2) ranked No. 7 in CIF Southern Section Division 3A.

The Eagles face Santiago Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
