UC Irvine senior Lloyd Sicard has been named the Big West Conference Co-Athlete of the Week in men’s track.

Sicard won the 110-meter high hurdles and ran the opening leg on the victorious 4x400 relay for the Anteaters at the UC Riverside Spring Classic Invitational on Saturday.

His time of 13.93 seconds in the 110 hurdles was a season-best, despite a 1.3 headwind. The time is the best among Big West competitors this season.

Nelson in all-star game

UC Irvine senior Luke Nelson has been selected to compete in the Division I all-star basketball game Friday in Phoenix.

The game, part of Final Four weekend, is 3:35 p.m. Friday at the University of Phoenix Stadium and will be televised on the CBS Sports Network.

The game’s rosters feature 21 of the top seniors in the nation and were selected by the National Assn. of Basketball Coaches and NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee.

Nelson, the first UCI player to appear in the event, will compete on the West squad coached by Colorado’s Tad Boyle.

The 2017 Big West Conference Player of the Year, Nelson averaged a team-best 16.9 points per game this season.

Nelson was second-team NABC All-District 9 and first-team all-conference for the second straight season. He was also named to the All-Big West Tournament team for the third straight season.

Nelson ranks No. 1 in UCI history with 258 three-pointers and fourth all-time in points (1,531) and assists (415). He ranks No. 5 with 145 steals.

Nelson helped UCI win 93 games and reach the postseason the last four seasons under Coach Russell Turner.
