Cadettes earn Scouts Silver Award
Cadette Girl Scout Troop 9361 formed a musical performance group to earn its Silver Award.
The Concerto Cadettes will perform at community centers including children’s hospitals, senior homes and homeless shelters. The Silver Award is the highest award that can be earned as a Cadette Girl Scout. All of the girls play musical instruments and sing. The repertoire consists of choral selections, instrumental pieces, solos and an art exhibition.
“We have been rehearsing for 10 months now, and we’re starting to sound really good,” said Samantha Ozeas, 13.
All of the music is arranged by professional composer Steve Morrell, a father of one of the troop members.
“We are really lucky to have Mr. Morrell not only compose music specifically for our troop, but come to all our rehearsals and help us practice,” said Sasha Monterroso, 13.
The Concerto Cadettes’ first performance was on Aug. 25 at the Mountainview Retirement Residence in Montrose.
Applicants sought for Leadership Glendale
The Glendale Chamber of Commerce is seeking applicants for its next Leadership Glendale class, which begins in October and meets monthly through May.
Chamber membership is not required but applicants should live and/or work in the Glendale area.
Class members will learn about Glendale government, law enforcement, fire protection, development and housing, organizations, creative arts, media, transportation, healthcare, public education, retail business and more.
Leaders from local government, businesses and organizations serve as guest presenters. Field trips might include Walt Disney Imagineering, ABC7, Burbank Bob Hope Airport, Glendale Adventist Medical Center, Alex Theatre and Glendale Community College.

Adventist names vice president
Joining the staff at Glendale Adventist Medical Center is Arby Nahapetian, who was named vice president of medical affairs and quality. A practicing cardiologist and electrophysiologist, Nahapetian will help strengthen communication and enhance the hospital’s focus on clinical quality among its affiliated physicians.
He comes to Glendale Adventist from Cardiovascular Consultants Medical Group and serves as clinical instructor for medical students, residents and cardiology fellows at the UCLA School of Medicine and the Ronald Reagan Medical Center.
“My new position will bring together my interests in the administrative side of medicine as well as the clinical side,” he said. “I look forward to working with the hospital’s physicians to improve the efficiency and quality of patient care.”
Cabrini Guild hosts Membership Tea
Cabrini Literary Guild members and guests will kick off the year of activities with the annual Membership Tea from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 13 at the La Cañada Flintridge home of member Patty Szot.
Chairwoman is Joan Sandon, assisted by the Mannequin Department. Mary Andrade, president, and board members will greet the members and guests and be available to answer questions regarding membership in the guild.

The guild is a philanthropic organization made up of about 105 members helping to support local charities through a fundraiser every March. The guild also oversees a writing contest every April that is open to all Catholic high school students in the Los Angeles Archdiocese.
