Police pursue suspects through city streets

Six alleged thieves were arrested late Friday after leading police on pursuits throughout the city in separate car thefts, officials said.

Twenty-year-old Mario Calderon of Colton, 22-year-old Isaac Tellez of Los Angeles and three teens, whose names weren’t released because they are minors, were taken into custody about 12:30 a.m. Friday on suspicion of stealing a red 2009 Toyota Camry, which had been reported stolen moments before officers stopped the group, according to police reports.

At least 16 vehicles have been reported stolen in the past month throughout Glendale, according to the department, although Sgt. Tom Lorenz said the group was likely not responsible for the recent spate of thefts.

Police officers were patrolling South Glendale when they got a LoJack hit and were alerted to the Camry that was speeding at Brand Boulevard and San Fernando Road, according to an incident report.

The LoJack signal grew stronger as the Camry drove toward the officers. Police immediately activated lights and sirens and followed the Camry as it traveled 50 to 60 mph on Los Feliz Road to Glendale Avenue.

The Camry finally stopped when it hit a dead end at Madison Way.

One of the three teens told police that another teen had been a passenger in the Camry when they got a flat tire and its owner left his keys with Calderon, according to reports. The group changed out the flat tire for a spare and took off.

Earlier that same evening, police spotted Christopher Lamb, 26, of Montrose about 7:41 p.m. riding a blue scooter with expired registration tags at Rosemont Avenue and Foothill Boulevard.

Police tried to stop Lamb, but he reportedly accelerated and continued driving through the neighborhood.

He finally stopped at Rosemont Avenue and Mary Street, but he refused to get off the scooter, even though an officer had his gun drawn.

The officer walked toward the scooter and pushed his elbow into Lamb’s chest and moved the suspect toward the ground, according to police reports.

The scooter was reported stolen in January from Burbank. The scooter’s owner told police he let a friend borrow the bike, which was stolen outside a movie theater.
