All-Area Football First Team

OFFENSE

QB — Joshua Muema-Washington, Senior, Muir

Pacific League Player of the Year led the Mustangs to an eight-win season, as he threw for 2,597 yards and 19 touchdowns. Was also fleet-footed, rushing for five touchdowns on the ground.

RB — James Williams, Sophomore, Burbank

Enjoyed a phenomenal breakout season, earning Pacific League Offensive Player of the Year honors after dazzling to the tune of 1,443 yards rushing and 17 touchdowns. His yards came on 133 carries and a 10.8-yard average.

RB — Ryan Wood, Senior, San Marino

Titans All-Rio Hondo League first-team honoree churned out 1,529 yards rushing and 22 touchdowns on the ground.

Rec. — Mike Davis, Senior, Glendale

Area’s fastest sprinter was a do-it-all first-team All-Pacific League pick. BYU-bound talent had seven total touchdowns that saw him return a kick, throw, rush and catch scores. Had 409 yards receiving, 258 rushing and also made 45 tackles on defense.

Rec. — Tommy Scheper, Senior, St. Francis

Adept as a possession receiver who could also break the big gain, the first-team All-Mission League pick hauled in 50 catches for 865 yards and five touchdowns.

OL — Tucker Chemel, Senior, Flintridge Prep

First-team All-Prep League selection paved the way for two 1,000-yard rushers during the Rebels’ quarterfinal playoff run.

OL — Addison Farmer, Senior, Muir

A true force on the offensive line for the Mustangs, earning first-team All-Pacific League recognition.

OL — Jacob Jimenez, Senior, Burbank

First-team All-Pacific League selection was a crucial cog at center in bulldozing the way for a Bulldogs offense that ran for more than 3,000 yards.

OL — Matt Kubly, Senior, St. Francis

Center was a team captain and anchor of the line, earning second-team All-Mission League honors.

OL — Bryce Shaw, Senior, La Salle

Was voted All-Del Rey League Offensive Lineman of the Year after playing a pivotal role in La Salle’s 10-1 season.

K — Mark Verso, Senior, St. Francis

Big-time leg on All-Mission League first-teamer who booted 17 extra points and 10 field goals, including two from 48 yards in one game and a season-high of 51. Thirty-six of his 46 kickoffs were touchbacks.

DEFENSE

DL — Nick Gott, Senior, San Marino

One of the most talented players in the area, the first-team All-Rio Hondo League pick was a phenomenal fullback, paving the way for 1,500-yard back Ryan Wood and rushing for 239 yards and 13 touchdowns himself. On the defensive end, he tallied 5.5 sacks and 19 tackles.

DL — Steven Kim, Senior, Burbank

A defensive tackle with a nose for the quarterback, he tallied 12 sacks and 65 tackles to earn the accolade of Pacific League Defensive Player of the Year.

DL — Cole Ramseyer, Senior, St. Francis

Undersized end had a motor that never stopped on his way to 12 sacks, 14 hurries, 53 tackles, two forced fumbles and an interception. Was a first-team All-Mission League pick.

DL — Shane Tierney, Senior, La Salle

Garnered 87 tackles, five sacks and two fumble recoveries and was voted the Del Rey League Defensive Lineman of the Year.

LB — Bobby LaSalle, Senior, La Salle

Was a key component in Lancers’ defense, as he posted 71 tackles, three sacks and five fumble recoveries.

LB — Jesse Pina, Senior, Hoover

Catalyst for Tornadoes’ turnaround was a standout linebacker and running back, as the first-team All-Pacific League honoree had 922 yards rushing and 10 total touchdowns.

LB – Jake Zelek, Senior, Pasadena Poly

Multi-faceted talent was an All-Prep League first-teamer who had 1,121 yards and 14 touchdowns rushing, while posting 97 tackles on defense.

DB — Damian Lopez, Senior, Burbank

First-team All-Pacific League honoree didn’t shy away from contact, notching a team-high 92 tackles to go with three sacks.

DB — LaMarr McDaniels, Senior, Muir

Standout for a Mustangs defense that allowed just 38 points in the Pacific League, earning him first-team honors.

DB — Stefan Smith, Junior, Flintridge Prep

All-around talent was a first-team All-Prep League pick. As a running back, the shifty speedster ran for 1,480 yards and 23 touchdowns on 148 carries. Added three touchdowns receiving and another on defense on one of his four interceptions. Finished with 22.5 tackles, a forced fumble and a blocked kick.

DB — Joey Velladao, Senior, St. Francis

Tallied a team-high 104 tackles — 44 more than his nearest teammate — on his way to first-team All-Mission League honors.

ALL-PURPOSE

Israel Lacy, Senior, La Salle

Del Rey League Most Valuable Player was a game-breaker, averaging 12.3 yards per carry and totaling 837 rushing yards on the season and 12 touchdowns. He added another score on a reception and another on a kick return, of which he totaled 483 yards.

Josh Martinez, Senior, Bellarmine-Jefferson

Was a one-man gang for the Guards, rushing for 1,813 yards in 237 carries, averaging nearly eight yards a carry and tallying 26 rushing scores. At the end of the season, he had 29 total touchdowns and scored 38 two-point conversions for a total of 250 points.

Matt Wofford, Senior, San Marino

Did it all for Titans during their 10-win season as a quarterback, kicker and defensive back. The Rio Hondo League Offensive Player of the Year rushed for 1,156 yards and 19 touchdowns on 186 carries and also threw for 1,058 yards and 10 touchdowns, completing 77 of 135 passes. Defensively, he had 14 tackles and an interception and as a kicker, converted five of seven field goals, including a 47-yarder, and 65 of 67 extra points.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Antonio Harrison, Flintridge Prep

In his third year at the helm, Harrison coached his first playoff game and notched his first playoff win, but the season was far more impressive than just that. A season after going 1-9, with two of the defeats coming via forfeit after the Rebels’ roster size shrunk to an alarming rate due to injuries, the 2012 Flintridge Prep squad completed an improbable turnaround. With Harrison and his players recruiting more athletes from the campus and employing a more strenuous strength and conditioning program, the Rebels went 6-5, making it to the playoffs for the first time since 2008, turning in a winning season for the first time since 2007 and earning a nailbiting, first-round CIF-SS playoff win over Ribet Academy serving as the program’s first playoff victory since 2003.
