818 Roundup: Burbank police find man stabbed on Halloween

In case you missed them, here are your local headlines from the weekend:

  • Police are investigating a stabbing in Burbank that left a 44-year-old man hospitalized on Halloween, police said. The stabbing had occurred about a mile-and-a-half away on the 1000 block of West Magnolia Boulevard, where officers served a search warrant Sunday morning to recover evidence.

  • A car with four people in it crashed into a support pillar of a Burbank apartment complex parking garage Friday evening, killing two passengers, Burbank police said.

  • Health officials are urging area residents to maintain vigilance against mosquito infestation and bites after two Glendale residents contracted West Nile virus, resulting in one fatality.

  • The Triple Crown-winning horse American Pharoah, trained by La Cañada Flintridge’s Bob Baffert, made sure he went out a winner as he smoked an eight-horse field, winning the Breeders’ Cup Classic by 6 1/2 lengths in the final race of his career.

  • A proposed historic sign ordinance that Burbank city planners have been hammering out since last year will no longer include a certain provision after the City Council voiced concerns that a previous version of the ordinance would make it difficult for future property owners to change or remove pre-1969 signs.

  • A Burbank man accused of punching a 78-year-old man over Nutella waffle samples at Burbank’s Costco pleaded no contest on Friday to one count of elder abuse, officials said.

  • Artist Leisa Collins is a fan of strolling through Glendale neighborhoods, but she has an even bigger fondness for architecture that will occasionally stop her right in her tracks. That’s when she starts to sketch, which later evolves into paintings.

  • The overall message at Burbank’s annual State of the City address that that the city, while healthy, still faces fiscal challenges arising from aging infrastructure, streets, bridges and municipal buildings.

  • History may remember Frank Lanterman as an influential California assemblyman who sponsored several important pieces of legislation in his 28-year career, but one upcoming local event offers a more personal look at Lanterman, the man and the musician.
