Glendale police delivered Easter bags on Wednesday to more than 700 students at Horace Mann Elementary School in Glendale. About couple dozen officers and volunteers distributed the bags to 720 students, ranging from preschoolers to fifth-graders, while also educating them about traffic safety.
Despite publicly stating their opposition to an initiative that would create district-based voting, a measure created in response to the threat of a lawsuit, several members of the City Council stated the decision should be up to voters.
Two of the four initiatives on the ballot Tuesday deal directly with money: Asking voters to increase the city’s hotel tax and to allow the City Council to set its own pay.
A mid-year review of students’ scores on iReady assessments show that they are making gains compared to results from the start of this school year, but across Glendale, 54% of students tested at or above their grade level in math, while 52% tested at their grade level or above in reading.
The man who died after his vehicle collided with a tree Wednesday morning was identified as 57-year-old Cabot Hines, a North Hills resident.
