Body found in Burbank

An investigation is underway after a body wrapped in dark plastic was found near railroad tracks in Burbank, police said. About 12:35 p.m., a citizen called police to report the body, which was located in an open field near the tracks behind Stock Building Supply on the 600 block of North Victory Boulevard. Parolee arrested after chase

Police caught an armed parolee after a high-speed chase in Glendale early Wednesday morning, authorities said. Ricky Anthony Lopez, who was on parole for assault with a firearm, was arrested on suspicion of felony evading, being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a large-capacity magazine. Bargaining turns sour

Contract negotiations between La Cañada Unified School District and representatives of the La Cañada Teachers Assn. have reportedly turned adversarial, according to an email sent Wednesday by the president of the teachers’ union. Since Feb. 4, representatives of the La Cañada Teachers Assn. had been working with school officials through “interest-based bargaining” on revisions to the contract for the 2015-16 school year. Fourth-grader’s poster wins big

A Lincoln Elementary student won first place in a poster contest that had nearly 10,000 entries from elementary students across Glendale’s public and private schools earlier this month. Fourth-grader Lukas Newman earned the top spot in the contest as part of Glendale Clean & Beautiful’s annual “I Love My Neighborhood” competition for his submission, titled, “Slam Dunk the Junk.” Glendale News-Press

Ten days after she was born, Nimble lost the use of all four legs. But thanks to a local veterinarian technician, this Chihuahua-Pomeranian mix has a chance to get her freedom back.
