The following are updates on local athletes at the collegiate level.
Antonio Garrett (Glendale Community College, 2012) College of Idaho men’s basketball senior: Things have been going quite well for Garrett and the Yotes, who moved up two notches to sixth in the latest NAIA Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll. Heading into Friday, College of Idaho is 21-5 and 12-2 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference and it’s the highest it’s been in the poll since a fifth-place spot in 2005.

Garrett, a forward, enjoyed a nice effort for the Yotes on Feb. 7 against Eastern Oregon in a home conference game. Garrett finished with a team-high 15 points to lead College of Idaho to a 67-54 victory. He notched 11 first-half points to help the Yotes build a 35-26 advantage. Garrett made a pair of three-pointers and finished with seven defensive rebounds to spark the Yotes to their eighth consecutive win.

College of Idaho needs one more win to clinch at least a share of the regular season conference championship for the first time since 2004.

In 12 games, which includes 10 starts, Garrett is averaging 14 points and 7.4 rebounds.

The Yotes also feature former Vaquero Demetrius Perkins, a junior guard. Perkins is averaging 14.3 points and 3.4 rebounds per game, to go along with 44 steals and 17 blocks.

Coltrane Powdrill (Crescenta Valley High, 2010) California Lutheran University men’s basketball junior: Powdrill, a former All-Area Boys’ Basketball Player of the Year, and the Kingsmen have already posted 17 wins with two regular season games remaining.

Powdrill has been a force to be reckoned with, as he’s averaging a team-best 16.9 points and 6.8 rebounds per contest. He’s started all 23 games.

Powdrill finished with 16 points in Cal Lutheran’s 80-76 overtime loss against host La Verne on Feb. 8 in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game. In a conference home game against Caltech on Feb. 5, Powdrill had eight points and 10 rebounds in a 63-60 win. Powdrill made a pair of free throws with 15 seconds left in overtime to seal the victory.

In the Kingsmen’s 74-61 home conference win versus Pomona-Pitzer on Feb. 1, Powdrill recorded 11 points and five rebounds.

The Kingsmen are 17-6 and 8-6 in conference entering a conference home contest against Whittier at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

PJ DeZotell (St. Francis High, 2013) Pasadena City College baseball freshman: DeZotell, an outfielder, appears to have adjusted quickly to the collegiate level following a successful career with the Golden Knights. The Lancers are 3-5, but have had some valiant efforts at the plate from DeZotell.

He’s batting a robust .379 (11 for 29) with three doubles and nine runs batted in. In addition, he’s registered a team-high .552 slugging percentage in eight contests.

DeZotell had a big hand in Pasadena sweeping Cerro Coso in a nonconference home doubleheader Saturday at Jackie Robinson Field. In the first game, he collected a bases-loaded double in the bottom of the second inning to give the Lancers a 5-2 advantage. Pasadena would go on to post a 9-5 victory. In the second contest, he finished with three hits and drove in a pair of runs in Pasadena’s 5-4 win. DeZotell had a two-run single in the sixth to knot it at 2.

DeZotell has hit safely in six games for the Lancers, who will next take part in a nonconference home game against Grossmont on Tuesday.

Allison Lacey (Crescenta Valley High, 2012) Pasadena City College softball sophomore: It’s been a rough start to the season for the Lancers, who are 2-8 and 0-2 in the South Coast Conference. There’s been a bright spot in that span for Pasadena in Lacey, a catcher/utility player.

In nine games, Lacey is batting .333 (seven for 21) with seven runs scored and two runs batted in. In addition, she’s stolen a team-high six bases and walked three times.

Lacey’s best performance came Feb. 1 in a 9-8 defeat against Grossmont College at the Desert Tournament at Civic Center Park in Palm Desert. Lacey finished with three hits and drove in a pair of runs. She collected a run-scoring double in the fourth inning and drove in a run with a single in the sixth before the Lancers fell in the seventh.

Earlier, Lacey had two-hit games in contests versus Imperial Valley on Jan. 31 and Barstow on Feb. 1.

Pasadena, which has lost six games in a row, will next compete Saturday in a nonconference road doubleheader against Oxnard.
