A battle on the basketball court between Glendale police and firefighters raised $5,000 for local at-risk youth.

Glendale fire personnel defended their championship title again this year, narrowly outscoring police 57-54 during the fourth annual Hoop Heroes game on Sunday at Glendale High School.

Police and firefighters were competing to raise money for the Salvation Army’s Zone Academy, which is an after-school program offering a safe environment for at-risk youth as well as tutoring in math, language and computer skills for students ages 8 to 13.

Event organizers also collected 2,400 pounds of food to help stock the local pantry at the Salvation Army in Glendale, which distributes 12,600 pounds of food per month.

The pantry provides food to 700 people monthly.
