The man who was stabbed to death outside the Glendale courthouse early Monday morning was identified as 57-year-old Alex Littlejohn, Los Angeles County coroner’s officials said.

Littlejohn reportedly had a confrontation with another man, who was also injured during the stabbing, though further details on what motivated the fight were not available.

Just before 2 a.m., the injured victim approached the Glendale police station and used the call box to ask dispatchers for help, said Glendale Police Sgt. Robert William.

Police and paramedics responded right away and found the man, who had been stabbed, lying on the ground in a pool of blood.

Investigators followed the trail of blood to the front of the Glendale courthouse, where Littlejohn was reportedly found dead with multiple stab wounds.

A knife was recovered somewhere within the crime scene.

“We don’t know exactly what happened between these two men,” said William, adding that whether they knew each other is unclear. “Right now investigators are trying to piece the puzzle together.”

The man who called dispatchers was transported to the hospital, where he underwent surgery.

He’s expected to survive, though details about his injuries were not available.

Investigators have not yet interviewed him as he is medicated and recovering, but don’t believe there are outstanding suspects.

“There’s no evidence of a third person,” William said.

Detectives hope to review video surveillance footage from around the crime scene.
