Man still in hospital after being stabbed in Glendale

A Sunland man remained hospitalized Wednesday after he was stabbed twice in Glendale during an argument with another man over his girlfriend, police said.

The 30-year-old man suffered a deep wound to his left torso and another cut in his left armpit during Sunday’s incident, police said. He was taken to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, where he was being treated for non life-threatening injuries, Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.

Prosecutors charged his alleged attacker, Rafik Tahmassan, with one count of assault with a deadly weapon, which includes the special allegation that he caused great bodily injury, according to Jane Robison, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Tahmassan was arrested about 10:22 p.m. Sunday on suspicion of attempted murder. He was reportedly standing behind a parked vehicle, which was a block away for the crime scene.

Tahmassan, 28, and the victim allegedly got into an argument about the victim’s girlfriend, who was also with them, in the 100 block of North Kenilworth Avenue, police said.

At some point during the argument, Tahmassan reportedly stabbed the man with a knife, police said.

Tahmassan and the victim were acquaintances, according to Lorenz.

Detectives planned to present their case to county prosecutors on Wednesday.

Tahmassan remained in police custody Wednesday in lieu of $80,000 bail.
