Fire damages home, occupants unhurt
A fire badly damaged a single-family home early Wednesday, but its occupants made it out unharmed thanks to a neighbor’s quick thinking, police said.
The fire was reported at 2:52 a.m. at 240 Jesse Ave., said Sgt. Tom Lorenz of the Glendale Police Department.
Both Glendale and Burbank engines responded to the scene, where heavy flames could be seen coming from the structure’s attached garage, Lorenz said.
All occupants made it out of the house safely because a neighbor alerted them of the blaze, he said.
Crews battled the fire for about an hour and declared it knocked down at 3:53 a.m., Lorenz said. One firefighter suffered a minor injury.
The fire caused significant damage to the kitchen, garage and common living area of the home, he said.
There was also damage to the attic due to excessive heat and smoke, Lorenz said.
There was $400,000 in structural damage and $100,000 in content losses.
No structures nearby were damaged.
The cause of the blaze is still under investigation, Lorenz said.
