[UPDATED: 9/10, 4:00 p.m.] Residents will get a chance next week to give their input about a small number of bridge projects that could one day connect the Glendale Narrows Riverwalk project to Griffith Park and Atwater Village.

A community meeting will be held Thursday, Sept. 11, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Pacific Community Center Gymnasium, 501 S. Pacific Blvd.

It will focus on the third phase of the Riverwalk project. The first phase saw the opening of the half-mile trail along the Glendale side of the Los Angeles River at the end of 2012. It also connects to two parks and an equestrian facility.

The second phase is currently in design development and will add two new parks to the area. Flower Plaza Park will be adjacent to the intersection of Flower Street and Fairmont Avenue, while Confluence Park will be situated where the river meets the Verdugo Wash.

The final phase of the project will feature construction of two bridges — one from the Riverwalk bike path to the bike trail adjacent to Griffith Park, while the other will link the Verdugo Wash to Atwater Village, according to city staffers.

But where exactly the bridges would be built has yet to be determined.

“We’d like the community’s input as to what ... would be the best locations,” said Jess Duran, director of the community and parks department.

The goal is to expand recreational opportunities by linking Glendale to neighboring points in Los Angeles, he said, adding that federal funding will be sought for constructing the bridges.

Two additional meetings on the project’s third phase are expected to be held, one in October and the other in December.
