Men suspected of robbing Scholl Canyon Golf Club pleads not guilty

Two men pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges that they reportedly broke into the Scholl Canyon Golf Club to steal golf-cart batteries, police said.

Antonio Rodriguez, 23, and Rafael Garcia Soloranzo, 26, were charged with possessing burglary tools, which were allegedly used on Jan. 5 to break into the golf club in the 3800 block of East Glenoaks Boulevard, according to Los Angeles County Superior Court records.

Rodriguez also faces burglary and forgery charges.

The pair was taken into custody just after 9:11 p.m. when police were patrolling the area near the golf club and spotted them entering the farthest southeast building on the property, according to Glendale police.

Police reportedly witnessed Rodriguez and Soloranzo carrying large items as they ran in and out of the building.

As the pair began to drive away, police held them at gunpoint until additional law enforcementsupport arrived at the scene.

A police dog and helicopter responded and searched the property.

Inside the duo’s Jeep Grand Cherokee, police found eight large golf-cart batteries.

Police also seized latex gloves, pliers and a pair of bolt cutters.

Police said the men likely used bolt cutters to break through the property’s chain-link fence and padlock. They allegedly pried open a sliding glass door to enter the golf club.

The pair is expected to appear Jan. 15 in Los Angeles Superior Court in Burbank to discuss their preliminary hearing.
