Times Community News wins statewide journalism awards

Times Community News, the parent company of the Glendale News-Press, Burbank Leader and La Cañada Valley Sun, won 12 statewide journalism awards last weekend.

During a ceremony held Saturday in San Jose, the papers received the first and second place honors from the California Newspaper Publishers Association. The award categories and the awardees are:

Coverage of Local Government (1^st place) - Alene Tchekmedyian

Website (1^st place) – Nicole Charky and Sameea Kamal

Best Writing (2^nd place) - Daniel Siegal

Sports Photo (2^nd place) - Roger Wilson

News Photo (2^nd place) - Raul Roa

Arts & Entertainment (1^st place) - Steve Appleford

Sports (1^st place) – Grant Gordon, Andrew Campa and Charles Rich
