Police checkpoint on Saturday yields arrests

Share

Five motorists were arrested Saturday on suspicion of drunk driving during a police checkpoint.

Nearly 800 vehicles drove through the checkpoint from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Brand Boulevard and Cerritos Avenue, but only 65 vehicles were screened, according to Glendale police.

Police conducted 19 field sobriety tests and towed two vehicles during the grant-funded checkpoint aimed at decreasing deaths and injuries tied to motorists who were driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Officers arrested 10 motorists for alleged driver’s license violations and issued eight citations. Police also arrested two people for outstanding warrants.

Officers from Glendale, Burbank, Pasadena and San Fernando police departments arrested nine motorists last week for alleged drunk and drugged driving as part of a patrol operation performed during Super Bowl festivities.

They stopped 67 vehicles and arrested three motorists for driver’s license violations.

Another police checkpoint is planned for March 8.
