Police seek trio suspected of starting Brand Park fire

Police are looking for three men suspected of starting a fire in the hills above Brand Park Library in June that burned 150 acres and took three days to extinguish.

The blaze, reported around 12:30 p.m. on June 22, prompted the rescue of three hikers, according to fire officials. No homes or structures were threatened, but several trails had to be closed off as roughly 200 firefighters worked the flames.

Witness statements during a follow-up investigation revealed the brush fire may have been an act of arson by the three men, said Glendale Police spokeswoman Tahnee Lightfoot.

They were last seen running to what was believed to be a gray sport-utility-style vehicle, she said.

“The suspects fled during a time when the park was occupied by many visitors and it is believed that someone may have observed the suspects as they left the area,” Lightfoot said.
