Roundup: Glendale Community College track and field athletes move on to conference finals

WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD

Glendale Community College in Western State Conference prelims: A group of Vaqueros competed in Friday’s meet at Antelope Valley College and advanced to the conference championships.

Among those moving on for Glendale were Elizabeth Nelson (5 minutes 3.09 seconds), Glindyll Mancia (4:59.91) and Lizette Gonzalez (4.59.98) in the 1,500-meter race; Gonzalez (2:22.17), Narges Motamedi (2:27.75) and Mancia (2:20.68) in the 800; Nelson (39:55.03), Caitlyn Selve (42:48.22), Alejandro Quintero (42:58.22) and Kelly Castillo (43:36.73) in the 10,000; Justice Shank in the long jump (5.23 meters); Asiash Tuiasosopo in the discus (39.28 meters); and Ana Tonga (36.65 meters) and Nicole Pappelis (34.13 meters) in the javelin.

The conference championships will take place Friday at the same venue.

MEN’S TRACK AND FIELD

Glendale Community College in Western State Conference prelims: A collection of Vaqueros participated in Friday’s meet at Antelope Valley College and moved on to the conference championships.

Those advancing to the conference championships, which will be held Friday at the same location, were Edwardo Vasquez in the 1,500-meter race in 4 minutes 12.94 seconds; Rick Goulsby in the 100 (11.32); Alejandro Chavez (1:56.97) and Marc Marcano (1:58.70) in the 800; Charence Lander (57.62) in the 400 hurdles; Enrique Ramirez (33:33.85) and Daniel Marin (33:58.84) in the 10,000; Jerrod Plummer (3.92 meters) and Andrew Perez (3.92 meters) in the pole vault; Quaid Vuncannon (41.60 meters) in the discus; and Tanner Mays (55.21 meters) and David Renteria 47.83 meters) in the javelin.

SOFTBALL

Crescenta Valley 17, Hoover 0 (five innings): Crescenta Valley cruised to a Pacific League road win Thursday. The Falcons (9-4, 4-2 in league) scored 10 runs in the fourth inning to take a 12-0 lead. Hoover dipped to 5-5, 1-5 in league.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Crescenta Valley 13, Burbank 5: The visiting Falcons posted a Pacific League victory Thursday. Crescenta Valley improved to 9-3, 7-2 in league.

BOYS’ GOLF

Pasadena Poly 216, Flintridge Prep 247: Justin Yu had a nine-over-par 45 on Thursday for the Rebels in a Prep League match at Brookside Golf Course No. 1. Flintridge Prep dropped to 6-4, 0-4 in league.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Santa Ana College 3, Glendale Community College 2 (10 innings): The Vaqueros (19-14) fell Thursday in a nonconference contest. Raul Carnas finished with two hits and drove in a run for Glendale.
