Roundup: Glendale softball trumps rival Hoover, Flintridge Prep gets first league win

SOFTBALL

Glendale 14, Hoover 1 (six innings): The Nitros ran roughshod over the rival Tornadoes Friday at Hoover High in Pacific League action.

Jordan Lousararian went the distance for the victory, striking out four and allowing four hits, while contributing three hits on offense.

Grace Sinisterra, Rachel Bartamian and Tiffany Bartamian also had three hits each. Sammy Fabian had two hits, including a home run, and two stolen bases.

Glendale (12-5, 4-4) is now tied for fourth in league with Arcadia, while Hoover fell to 6-7, 2-6.

Deana Cruz knocked in Hoover’s only run, scoring Evie Unger.

Flintridge Prep 6, Mayfield 4: The Rebels notched their first Prep League win of the season, breaking an 18-game league skid, at home on Friday.

Therese Oshiro struck out 13 to notch the win in the circle and also scored two runs. Taylor Yoshida added two hits, two runs batted in, one run and a stolen base, while Alex Tutwiler had two hits, two runs, an RBI and two stolen bases, as the Rebels (4-11, 1-6 in league) won despite seven errors.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Flintridge Prep 3, Webb 0: Dante Fregoso finished with 16 kills and three aces Friday to spark the visiting Rebels to a 28-26, 25-22, 25-14 Prep League victory. Trip Westmoreland had 10 kills and four blocks for the Rebels, who received 31 assists from Aldridge Kim. Flintridge Prep improved to 15-4, 5-0 in league.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Glendale Community College 5, L.A. Valley 2: The Vaqueros closed out the Western State Conference South Division season with a win Friday afternoon at Stengel Field.

David Lira got the win, while Keaton Leach garnered the save. Jay Sheeley homered in the game, as the Vaqueros scored all five runs in the seventh.

GCC (21-15, 14-7 in conference) finished in third place, a game behind College of the Canyons, and is now hoping to get a berth in the California Community College Athletic Assn. Southern California playoffs. Pairings will be released Sunday afternoon.
