The following are updates on local athletes at the collegiate level.

Antonio Garrett (Glendale Community College, 2012) College of Idaho basketball senior: Garrett played a crucial role, scoring 18 points on Saturday as Idaho rallied from 22 points down to defeat Northwest, 93-80, in its regular-season finale.

Garrett, a senior forward who added four rebounds, was eight of nine from the floor and sank both of his free throws, while Demetrius Perkins, another former GCC player who starts for Idaho, scored seven points to go with six assists, three rebounds and two steals.

Idaho (26-5) won its 13th straight game and improved to 15-0 at home on Wednesday, as it opened the Cascade Conference tournament with a 92-65 win against Eastern Oregon.

Garrett pulled down 12 rebounds and scored six points to go along with two blocks, two steals and two assists. Perkins, a junior guard, added nine points, four assists and five rebounds.

Idaho will now take on Oregon Tech in the conference semifinals Saturday.

Perkins is averaging 13.9 points per game, second-best on the team, just ahead of Garrett’s 13.2 points. Perkins has compiled a team-high 55 steals and his 83 assists are second-best on the squad. Garrett’s 66% shooting is best on the team, while his 7.6 rebounds are second-best.

Edgar Montes (Glendale Community College, 2013) UNLV baseball junior: Montes is riding a six-game hitting streak, having hit safely in every game thus far this season besides the season opener.

Montes, who starts in right field, was two for three with a pair of runs batted in during the Rebels’ 4-2 loss at Tennessee on Sunday.

Montes is hitting .333 with eight hits in 24 at-bats to go along with a .448 on-base percentage. He’s also tallied five runs and four RBI.

Another GCC product, senior Matt McCallister, is a mainstay in the starting lineup for the Rebels. The infielder has started all seven games thus far and is hitting .125.

UNLV (4-3) will look for its first road win of the season when it faces Air Force on Friday in Las Vegas.

Ruben Padilla (Glendale Community College, 2011) Chico State baseball senior: Padilla started the season red-hot and hasn’t cooled down.

He leads the Wildcats with a .341 average (team-high 14 hits in 41 at-bats) and has added five runs, six runs batted in, a team-best 16 total bases, four walks, five hit by pitches and a .451 on-base percentage.

A starter in all 13 of his team’s games, Padilla got the nod at third base on Saturday and went two for five with a run in Chico’s 9-1 win over Academy of Art.

Padilla hit safely in the first five games of the season and has tallied a hit in 10 of 13 games.

Padilla was named the Wildcat of the Week on Feb. 10 after he hit .500 and drove in three of Chico’s runs in a three-game sweep of Azusa Pacific.

Chico, sporting a 10-3 record, hosts Cal State Monterey Bay in a doubleheader on Saturday.
