Sports Roundup: Crescenta Valley, Flintridge Prep girls’ basketball notch league wins

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Flintridge Prep 52, Chadwick 34: Tala Ismail and Renae Tamura each finished with 12 points Tuesday to lift the visiting Rebels to a Prep League win. Maya Okamoto added nine points for the Rebels (16-4, 9-2 in league).

Crescenta Valley 44, Hoover 21: Alisa Shinn had 11 points and eight rebounds Tuesday to spark the visiting Falcons in a Pacific League contest. Crescenta Valley improved to 19-8, 10-3 in league. Hoover fell to 3-16, 3-10.

Burbank 48, Glendale 39: Glendale dropped to 11-15, 5-7 in the Pacific League with Tuesday’s defeat.

Holy Family 41, Trinity 22: Melissa Chan finished with 18 points, including five three-pointers, to propel the visiting Gaels on Saturday in a nonleague contest. Tabitha Ruiz collected 11 points for Holy Family (7-16).

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Chadwick 50, Flintridge Prep 46: The visiting Rebels had their 25-game Prep League winning streak snapped Tuesday. Flintridge Prep (11-13, 7-1 in league) got 26 points from Robert Cartwright and eight points and 13 rebounds from Dante Fregoso. The Rebels had already locked up the league championship.

Burbank 47, Glendale 27: The Nitros offense could never get going in Tuesday’s Pacific League loss, as Glendale fell to 8-17, 3-10 in league.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Crescenta Valley 1, Hoover 1: The host Tornadoes were two minutes shy of major upset before the Falcons scored in the 78th minute to force a tie in Pacific League on Tuesday afternoon, as

Izzy Costilla rescued CV with a late goal off an Ani Hemelians assist.

Junior forward Jordan Miller scored in the 30th minute for Hoover (3-14-2, 3-8-2), which received seven saves from goalkeeper Arianna Solis.

“We’re a little disappointed because we almost had the win, but we’re still excited for the tie,” Hoover Coach AC Metallinos said. “It’s a big game for us.”

Crescenta Valley is now 9-8-2, 9-3-2.

Burbank 5, Glendale 0: The host Nitros suffered a Pacific League defeat Tuesday. Glendale dropped to 4-11-3, 2-9-2 in league.

San Gabriel Mission 10, Holy Family 1: The visiting Gaels fell to 0-10 overall and 0-8 in league after a Horizon League defeat on Tuesday afternoon.

Flintridge Prep 2, Chadwick 0: The visiting Rebels received one goal apiece from Isabella Boyles and Jillian Brady on Monday to earn a Prep League victory. The Rebels have won six matches in a row to improve to 11-4-4, 6-1-1 in league.

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 3, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 2: The Tologs fell Monday in a home Mission League match at Occidental College. Flintridge Sacred Heart (9-8-2, 2-6-1 in league) got one goal each from Casey Basso and Sophia Saldivar.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Crescenta Valley 7, Hoover 0: Senior Tony Royer finished with a hat trick and the Falcons rolled to a Pacific League victory over the visiting Tornadoes on Tuesday afternoon.

Overall, seven players contributed at least one point for the Falcons (20-4-3, 9-3-1), who received two goals from Jason Winicki and a goal and an assist each from Justin Wright and Chris Sinani.

Sameen Islam, Ara Nazaryan and Shyan Chachi added one assist each for Crescenta Valley, which received one save from goalie Adan Martinez.

Hoover fell to 5-12-1, 2-9-1.

Glendale 5, Burbank 1: The Nitros kept their playoff hopes alive with Tuesday’s key Pacific League win on the road, improving to 5-7-1 for 16 points.

Glendale trails Arcadia and Muir by one point going into the final day of the season Thursday.

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 3, St. Francis 1: Visiting St. Francis suffered a Mission League defeat Monday. Kareem Zeenni scored a goal for St. Francis, which dropped to 5-10-4 and 2-7-2 in league.

MEN’S TENNIS

Glendale Community College 6, Riverside College 3: The host Vaqueros improved to 4-0 with a nonconference victory Tuesday. Glendale got singles wins from Dat Le (6-2, 6-1), Oleg Simonyan (4-6, 6-3, 11-9), Hosep Orojian (6-3, 7-6(8-6) and Cameron Braun (1-6, 6-2, 6-4). In doubles, Glendale got an 8-5 win from Braun and Clayton Pauff and a 9-8(7-5) victory from Simonyan and Dro Dermegerdichian.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Glendale Community College 5, Mount San Antonio College 4: Glendale (2-0) picked up a nonconference home victory Monday. The Vaqueros got singles wins from Viktoriya Shumakova (6-3, 7-5), Ashley Sumudio (6-0, 7-5) and Ayaka Takeuchi (6--2, 6-1) and doubles victories from Alexandra Amor and Shumakova (8-4) and Shigenaga and Takeuchi (8-3).

The Vaqueros opened their season Sunday with a 7-2 nonconference road victory against College of the Sequoias. Glendale received doubles victories from Amor and Shumakova (8-0), Meghedi Mooradian and Sumudio (8-4) and Shigenaga and Takeuchi (8-6). Picking up singles wins for the Vaqueros were Shumakova (6-3, 6-3), Amor (6-0, 6-0), Shigenaga (6-3, 6-2) and Takeuchi (6-2, 6-3).
