Sports Roundup: Glendale college track teams fare well in Riverside

WOMEN’S TRACK

AND FIELD

Glendale Community College in Riverside City College Open: The Vaqueros had some impressive efforts during Friday’s meet.

Glendale got first-place individual performances from Elizabeth Nelson in the 3,200 in 11 minutes 40.83 seconds, Justice Shank in the high jump in 1.62 meters, Ana Tonga in the shot put (10.78 meters), Asiash Tuuiasosopo in the discus (36.95 meters) and Nicole Pappelis in the javelin (33.79 meters).

Nelson worked with Lizette Gonzalez, Kelly Castillo, Glindyll Mancia to capture the 4x800 relay in 9:24.

Glendale Community College in Riverside City College Open: The Vaqueros got a pair of first-place performances at Friday’s meet.

Tanner Mays had a mark of 59.36 meters in the javelin for Glendale. Glendale’s 4x800-meter relay team of Edwardo Vasquez, Alejandro Chavez, Marc Marcano and Jorge Mendoza took first in 8:00.78.

MEN’S TENNIS

Glendale Community College 4, New Mexico Military Institute 1: Glendale (10-4) posted a nonconference home victory Friday. The Vaqueros got singles victories from Hosep Orojian (6-1, 6-2), Oleg Simonyan (4-6, 6-4, 10-6) and Santiago Segovia (6-3, 6-3). Glendale got an 8-3 doubles win from Segovia and Clayton Pauff.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

New Mexico Military Institute 3, Glendale Community College 2: The host Vaqueros (11-3) suffered a nonconference defeat Friday.

Glendale picked up singles win from Meghedi Mooradian (6-2, 3-6, 10-3) and a doubles victory from Mooradian and Ayaka Takeuchi (9-7).

SOFTBALL

Rio Hondo Prep 20, Flintridge Prep 4 (five innings): The Rebels lost at home Friday, dropping their second Prep League game in as many days via mercy rule.

Julie Yi had two hits for the Rebels, including a double, and drove in a run during the Rebels’ four-run fourth inning that drew the score to 11-4.

Flintridge Prep dropped to 2-7, 0-3 in league.

BASEBALL

Harvard-Westlake 14, St. Francis 3: The Golden Knights fell to 3-3 and 0-2 in the Mission League with Friday night’s loss at home.
