Sports Roundup: Hoover baseball staves off Eagle Rock

BASEBALL

Hoover 6, Eagle Rock 5: Fidel Hernandez had a double, home run and drove in three runs Thursday to propel the host Tornadoes (6-2) in an L.A. Poly Tournament contest. Pitcher Luis Zamora went six innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out five to go to 2-1.

BOYS’ GOLF

Flintridge Prep 234, Temple City 265: Jonah Sacks carded a five-over-par 40 on Thursday to spark the visiting Rebels (5-1) to a nonleague win at Eaton Canyon Golf Course. Justin Yu had a 43 for Flintridge Prep.

TRACK AND FIELD

Harvard-Westlake 82, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 44: The Tologs won six events in Thursday’s Mission League meet at St. Francis High.

Flintridge Sacred Heart got first-place efforts from Kayla Grahn in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter races. She clocked 5 minutes 37.93 in the 1,600 and 12:30.02 in the 3,200. Kayla Montgomery won the 400 in 59.16 for the Tologs, who also got first-place finishes from Sophia Saldivar in the 800 (2:29.34) and Elizabeth Whan in the shot put (27 feet 9 inches). Flintridge Sacred Heart’s 4x400 relay team of Montgomery, Saldivar, Nia Harris and Ella Gmelich won in 4:08.94.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Harvard-Westlake 3, St. Francis 0: David Thompson finished with 23 assists for the visiting Golden Knights, who fell, 25-17, 25-19, 25-14, on Thursday.

SOFTBALL

Chadwick 20, Flintridge Prep 0 (five innings): The visiting Rebels fell Thursday in a Prep League contest called in the fifth inning because of the 10-run mercy rule. Taylor Yoshda had the lone hit for the Rebels, who dropped to 2-6, 0-2 in league.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Glendale Community College 7, Antelope Valley College 2: The visiting Vaqueros picked up a Western State Conference win Thursday. Glendale (11-2, 7-2 in conference) picked up singles victories from Viktoriya Shumakova (6-2, 6-0), Meghedi Mooradian (6-1 6-1), Amy Shigenaga (6-1, 6-0), Ayaka Takeuchi (6-0, 6-0) and Wendy Vasuthasawat (6-1, 6-0). In doubles, Glendale got wins from Shumakova and Mooradian (8-2) and Takeuchi and Vasuthasawat (8-2).

On Tuesday, Glendale recorded a 6-3 road home win against Ventura. Earning singles wins were Shumakova (6-3, 6-4), Mooradian (6-2, 6-2), Alexandra Amor (6-3, 6-3), Shigenaga (6-0, 6-0) and Ashley Sumudio (6-4, 6-1). The Vaqueros got doubles victories from Amor and Shumakova (8-5) and Mooradian and Sumudio (8-1).

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

Citrus College 6, Glendale Community College 3: Kelsie Ange finished with two hits and drove in two runs Thursday for the visiting Vaqueros in a Western State Conference Blue Division contest. Glendale dropped to 9-11, 3-4 in the division.
