Sr. Mary Shearer died on December 28, 2012 at St. Joseph Residence, Seattle, WA, at 94 years of age, after 69 years as a Sister of Providence. Vigil Service: January 6, 2013. Funeral Mass: January 7, 2013. Bonney-Watson Funeral Home, Seattle, WA, is in charge of the arrangements.
Sr. Mary was born to Frank, Sr., and Catherine "Katie" (Brindle) Shearer on May 3, 1918 at their farm home in Menomonie, WI. She had three brothers, William Brindle, Frank Shearer, Jr., and
Sr. Mary entered the Sisters of Providence on January 18, 1943, made her first profession on July 19, 1944, and her final vows on July 19, 1947.
Her academic accomplishments included: R.N., St. Elizabeth Hospital, Yakima, WA, 1948; Student, Advanced Course,
Her ministries included: Cook, Student Nurse, Pastoral Care, Pastoral Associate, Obstetrics Nurse, and
Burbank, CA; and Pastoral Associate, St. Joseph Medical Center, Burbank, CA.
She was often called the "Mother Teresa of Burbank" as written in the Toluca Lake News, CA.
Her parents and brothers preceded her in death. She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Beverly (Richard) Shearer, Menomonie, WI, and Shirley (William) Brindle, Eau Claire, WI, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
