Suspect led police on early morning pursuit through Glendale, Burbank

A 37-year-old man who led police on a car chase through Glendale and Burbank early Friday was caught and arrested with help from a K9 unit after he ditched his vehicle and fled on foot, police said.

At 1:09 a.m., police saw Ulysses Clayton make a right turn onto Elm Avenue from an eastbound lane and attempted to pull him over, said Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz.

The suspect then entered a subterranean garage at 250 W. Spazier Ave., ignoring two police vehicles and their flashing lights. He eventually left the structure, accelerated rapidly and headed northbound on Spazier, Lorenz said.

Clayton allegedly made a right turn onto Lake Street without halting for a stop sign and made another right onto Allen Avenue without yielding, he said.

The suspect led authorities on a 10-minute pursuit, sometimes going as fast as 65 mph in a 25-mph zone, Lorenz said.

The chase ended in the 400 block of North Adams Street, where Clayton got out of his car and fled on foot, according to Lorenz.

A dog from a K-9 unit that was deployed found and bit Clayton near a parking garage at 413 N. Adams St., Lorenz said. The suspect was arrested without further incident.

Police also allegedly found a large bag of marijuana in Clayton’s glove compartment, Lorenz added.

He was booked on suspicion of felony evading a police officer and is being held on $75,000 bail.
