Winds bring power outages to Glendale
Wind gusts toppled trees and power lines Thursday morning, causing outages throughout southwest Glendale.
More than 1,500 customers lost power at 8:58 a.m. after trees and palm fronds collapsed on utility lines, likely because of wind gusts, according to Glendale Water & Power officials.
Gusts reached 30 mph near Bob Hope Airport on Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
About an hour later, workers trimmed trees and restored power to customers near the 6700 block of San Fernando Road and surrounding areas, as well as the 1600 block of Randall Street and 400 blocks of Canyon Drive and Woodbury Road.
Throughout the year, the utility department actively trims trees that are too close to power lines, said Steve Zurn, the utility’s general manager.
The department offers free tree-trimming services to its customers, but only in cases where a tree is too close to power lines.
