Police find body in Memphis Avenue alley

Police have identified the victim of an apparent homicide who was found in a Huntington Beach alley Sunday.

Police said 44-year-old Tyrrell Louis Rathbun had been shot several times and was found near the 200 block of Memphis Avenue around 8:30 a.m. Coroner's officials said he died around 11 p.m. Saturday.

Police received a report about 11 p.m. Saturday of firecrackers and yelling near Memphis and Alabama Street, according to a news release. The responding officers didn't find anything unusual.

A black beach cruiser was found near Rathbun, but police are unsure if the bicycle belonged to him, according to the release. A large extension cord on a reel was also found near the victim's body.

Investigators said they do not know the victim's city of residence and are looking for people who may have knowledge of his recent activities.
