Police retrieve property stolen from Fountain Valley gym

Fountain Valley police were able to return a stolen iPhone and iPod that were taken from a local gym earlier this month.

Officials arrested Martin Trinh, 19, of Westminster, on Wednesday, on suspicion of burglary and possession of stolen property. He was booked in Orange County Central Jail and was later released on his own recognizance that same day, according the Orange County sheriff's department.

Trinh reportedly stole an iPhone 5 from a gym locker on May 1 at Anytime Fitness in Fountain Valley and sold the item on Craigslist.

The buyer of the phone ran the serial number of the device through an online database after it had become deactivated. Results showed that the iPhone had been reported as stolen.

Police arrested Trinh at his home after using social media and investigative resources to confirm his identity. The suspect admitted to the theft.

Further investigations showed that the Trinh had also stolen an iPod from the same gym in April, but it was not reported stolen.
