Fans of sand and sport got an extra treat over the weekend as canine athletes took over Huntington State Beach for Purina Pro Plan's Incredible Surf Dog Competition and the Western regionals of the Incredible Dog Challenge.

Friday's surf contest included Huntington Beach dogs Libby, a Queensland heeler owned by Matt and Joy Campbell, and Australian shepherd Skylar Blue, owned by Lori Craig.

On Saturday, the Incredible Dog Challenge featured events in diving, freestyle flying disc, weave poles, agility and Jack Russell hurdle racing. The day's winners qualified for the national finals in October in St. Louis.
