District worker sentenced for child pornography

A Fountain Valley man who worked as a maintenance painter for the Huntington Beach City School District was sentenced Wednesday after pleading guilty to owning and distributing child pornography.

Orange County Superior Court Judge Robert Fitzgerald sentenced Roger Scott Hewson, 51, to a year in jail, five years of probation and a lifetime of registering as a sex offender, according to news release from the Orange County district attorney's office.

According the release, Hewson was discovered to have hundreds of digital photos of child pornography and was distributing the images to others through an online file sharing program.

None of the images were of children from the schools within the district, according to the district attorney's office.

With assistance from the nation's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Huntington Beach police arrested Hewson on Nov. 7, 2013, while he was working at Dwyer Middle School.
