Fundraiser to support wetlands education

The Amigos de Bolsa Chica is hosting its annual brunch fundraiser Sunday to support efforts to educate the public on the wetlands.

The event will take place at 10:30 a.m. at the Seacliff Country Club, 6501 Palm Ave., Huntington Beach. Tickets are $55 per person.

Money raised at the event will go toward the group's educational programs, including a new effort that will have docents traveling to local schools to show an educational video on the wetlands, said Shirley Dettloff, a founding member of the Amigos and former mayor of Huntington Beach.

The Amigos de Bolsa Chica is a nonprofit group that was formed in 1976 as an effort to save the Bolsa Chica wetlands from being developed into a marina.
