Man arrested after short pursuit

Huntington Beach police arrested a wanted felon who led authorities on a short pursuit Friday.

The suspect, whom authorities are not naming, was arrested on suspicion of evading arrest, burglary and for several outstanding felony warrants, Lt. John Domingo said.

At about 12:47 p.m. Friday, a Huntington Beach detective, who had been working on a case involving the suspect, happened to spot the man near the intersection of Brookhurst Street and Bishop Place in Westminster, Domingo said.

The detective asked for several plain-clothes officers to monitor the suspect while he was in the area. When the man left the area in his vehicle, several marked patrol vehicle units were sent in to perform a traffic stop to take him into custody.

The suspect began to evade arrest, but with knowledge of the subject's behavior and concerns for the public, officials called off the pursuit, Domingo said.

Shortly after units were told to stop, the suspect lost control of his vehicle and crashed in the area of Bushard Street and Rose Avenue in Fountain Valley.

The suspect ran from police, but was eventually was caught by a Huntington Beach K-9 unit.
