Motorcyclist killed in light-pole crash ID'd

A Chino man died when the motorcycle he was driving crashed into a light pole Monday in Huntington Beach, authorities said.

He was identifed as David Rico, 29, according to the Orange County coroner's office.

Witnesses told Huntington Beach police that the man was "driving in a reckless manner" when he crashed into the pole near Beach Boulevard and MacDonald Drive, according to a Huntington Beach Police Department news release. Police said speed was a factor.

Officers responded to the scene at about 9:45 p.m. and found the rider lying on the street. Huntington Beach Fire Department paramedics determined that he died of his injuries, according to the news release.

According to a preliminary investigation, Rico was riding north on Beach Boulevard from Heil Avenue before crashing into the pole on MacDonald Drive, authorities said.
