Lifeguards save passengers before boat runs aground

Huntington Beach lifeguards rescued 12 passengers from a disabled boat Sunday, according to a statement from the city.

Safety officials saw a 26-foot vessel in distress at 5:40 p.m. near the Anaheim Bay jetty northwest of Sunset Beach.

The propeller of the boat had become entangled in rope, according to the statement.

The passengers were safely removed from the vessel by Huntington Beach lifeguards before it ran aground and taken to the shore.

Orange County's Harbor Patrol arrived at the scene at 5:49 p.m. and towed the vessel out to the ocean.
