H.B. man arrested in beating

Huntington Beach police arrested a man Sunday on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after a woman was left in critical condition.

Thomas Clifford Johnson of Huntington Beach was arrested in connection with the incident, according to a statement from police.

Police said they received a call from a resident in the 20000 block of Portview Circle around 3:30 a.m. Sunday reporting that a woman in her 60s appeared to be badly beaten.

Huntington Beach Fire Department paramedics aided the woman before she was transported to a local hospital for emergency medical treatment, according to police. She was last reported to be in stable but critical condition.

Police are not releasing further information as the investigation continues.
