Briefs: Youth football and cheer registration available

OC Oilers Youth Football and Cheer program (formerly Huntington Beach Junior All-American Football and Cheer) is accepting online (www.ocoilers.org) registration for its 2014 fall season.

In-person sign-ups at Dick's Sporting Goods (7542 Edinger Ave., Huntington Beach) will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the following dates: June 7, June 14, June 21, and June 28.

HBPWF registration

Huntington Beach Pop Warner Football will hold its final in-person registration session for its 2014 fall season from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 7 at Edison High (21400 Magnolia St., Huntington Beach).

In addition, Huntington Beach Pop Warner Football will hold its first Golf Tournament and Helicopter Ball Drop July 14 at Tijeras Creek Golf Club (29082 Tijeras Creek) in Rancho Santa Margarita. The event supports the league's football, cheer and scholastic achievement. Registration deadline is June 21.

Marina baseball camps

The Marina Baseball Summer Camps, designed for local youth, have set two upcoming session dates. Session 1 is June 19 through July 2, and Session 2 is July 7 through July 18, both 10-day sessions running from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., and/or noon to 2 p.m., at the Marina High baseball fields (15871 Springdale St., Huntington Beach).

The camps will focus on various fundamentals including hitting, fielding, pitching, mental approach to the game, and campers will also take part in various games.

Marina hoops camp

Marina High boys' basketball will run a Little Kids Camp June 23-26 and July 21-24 at the school's gymnasium.

Both four-day sessions will run from 9 a.m. to noon. The camps are open to youth ages seven to 13.

Barons baseball camps

The Fountain Valley High baseball program will run two separate baseball camps during the summer.

Camp 1 runs from 8:30 11 a.m. Monday through Friday June 23-27. Camp 2 runs from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday June 30July 3, both at the Fountain Valley varsity baseball field. The cost is $100 per person per camp, and is open to incoming ninth-grade Fountain Valley students and incoming seventh- and eighth-grade students (2014-15 school year).

Barons Football golf tourney

Registration is currently open for the ninth annual Baron Football/Michael Musso "Moose Invitational" Golf Tournament presented by the Fountain Valley High Football Boosters.

This year's event is June 23 at Mile Square Golf Course (10401 Warner Ave., Fountain Valley). The tournament will consist of a four-person scramble, longest drive contest, closest-to-the-pin contest, and a putting contest.

The cost is $150 per golfer and includes green fees, cart fees, practice range, door prizes, gift bags, buffet lunch and banquet dinner.

The annual event helps raise money for the Fountain Valley High Baron football program and the Michael Musso Memorial Fund. Musso, a 2004 graduate of Fountain Valley High, lost his life in a car accident July 29, 2005. Through this fundraiser a scholarship is given to a four-year Baron football player each year.

Football camp coming to Fountain Valley

The 2014 Wendy's West Coast Showcase will be held at Fountain Valley High over a three-day period.

The camp runs from 9 to 11 a.m. daily June 24-26, with camp check-in being taken between 4 to 7 p.m. June 23. The camp is open to players in grades nine through 12 who hold a 3.0 or above GPA. Each player needs to his own helmet, shoulder pads, cleats and mouthpiece. Equipment rental also will be available from Riddell for $60 at the time of check-in.

Practices will start with a dynamic warm-up followed by a fundamental and technique period taught by college coaches. One-on-one drills, a game situation and on-field meeting, also will take place.

The three-day cost is $300 and each participant has the chance to win one of seven, $500 scholarships, plus the opportunity to connect with academic institutions from Ivy League universities to state colleges.

Edison youth hoops camp

The 15th annual Edison Basketball Youth Camp will run July 21-25 at the Edison High gymnasium (21400 Magnolia St., Huntington Beach).

The camp, co-sponsored by PCH Hoops, runs from 1 to 4 p.m. daily for youth grades third through eighth. The cost is $120 per camper and includes a complimentary basketball. Participating youth will learn the fundamentals of the basketball an be instructed by coaches from Edison and other area high schools.
