Youth Scene: Ocean View LL captures So Cal Division 4 championship

The Ocean View Little League 9/10 year-old All-Star team won the Southern California Division 3 championship Sunday by defeating Moorpark Little League, 9-2 at Johns-Manvillle Park/Ray Anderson Field in Lompoc.

Ocean View, representing the South, swept North representative in the best-of-three series en route to the title, winning the first game played Saturday between the teams, 11-10. Sunday's championship put the finishing touches on a 13-0 postseason run for Ocean View, which won District 62, Section 10, Sub-Division South and Southern California Division 3 tournament championships.

Little League (12-year-old) All-Stars

Ocean View's bid for the Sud-Division South championship came to an end July 24 following a 9-4 loss to Encinitas in the tournament's championship game at El Cajon (Fletcher Hills Little League host).

District 62 and Section 10 champion Ocean View split its first two games at the double-elimination tournament but won three straight elimination games which included a 6-4 win over Encinitas July 23, to force a title game showdown.

Encinitas on Monday defeated Long Beach to win the Southern California Division 3 title and advance to represent Southern California at the Little League Western Regional tournament which starts Friday in San Bernardino.

HB Pateadores win cup title

The girls' under-12 team from Pateadores Soccer Club-Huntington Beach won its second-straight tournament title by winning its division at the PATS Cup. The tournament was played Saturday and Sunday in San Juan Capistrano.

In its first game, against another PATS team from Rancho Santa Margarita, HB Pateadores scored an impressive, 6-0 shutout victory. The team's second game Saturday ended in a 2-2 tie score against Chula Vista.

In Sunday games at JSerra High, Huntington blanked Newport Mesa Soccer Club, 3-0, to advance to the division final where they met Chula Vista for a second time. This time, Huntington came out on top, 3-0, to win the tournament title. Sarah Boucher, Mattie Soules and Kate Marsh scored goals and goalies Sophia Doumanian, Soules and Julia Svartstrom combined for the shutout.
