Former longtime La Cañada resident Betty F. Almassy died Feb.27 at the age of 91.

She came to California at the age of 2 and was raised in Glendale, graduating from Hoover High School in 1937. She attended Glendale College for two years and then Occidental College for two years, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in economics in 1941. She met her husband, Thomas G. She and her husband were active in the Glendale Rotary Club; Betty held the position of president of Rotary Anns. She also was active in the Church of the Lighted Window, the Crescenta Valley chapter of the Red Cross and the Salvation Army, for which she delivered meals-on-wheels for many years.

Betty is survived by her three children, William Almassy, Robert Almassy and Susan Almassy Axline and by one grandchild, Christopher Axline.
