Towne Singers surprised at rehearsal

Share

Members of the Towne Singers were surprised at a recent rehearsal meeting when a representative of county Supervisor Mike Antonovich arrived to recognize the group’s 25th anniversary.

On Antonovich’s behalf, Phillip Chen presented a proclamation to Beth Richey, choral director, honoring the group for its excellence and “for bringing people together to learn beautiful choral music and to present music to the community in concert, enriching the lives of its members and its audiences.”

The group was founded in La Cañada in 1987 by Phyllis Winnaman, who was not present at the April 30 rehearsal. Winnaman began with nine members and has seen the Towne Singers grow to a 100-voice group.

A 25th-anniversary concert will be given at the Alex Theatre in Glendale at 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 12.

Tickets are available by calling (818) 275-4117.
