A motor home dealer, Al Shaw, in August 1982 bought Foothill Chevrolet on Verdugo Boulevard in La Cañada (where the movie theater complex is today). Shaw purchased the business from Pete Mann, who had bought it as Muller Chevrolet in early 1981 and changed the name.

More than 130 boys ages 9-14 were gearing up for La Cañada Junior All-American Football’s fifth season in 1972. A fourth team, the Junior Pee Wees, was added to the program that year. The other teams were the Pee Wees, the Junior Midgets and the Midgets.

Fifty Years Ago

When a ringing doorbell awakened her at 2 a.m. one Sunday, a La Cañada woman went to her front door to find a woman on her porch, holding a gun. The Baptiste Way resident told sheriff’s deputies later that when she told the stranger she was going to call the police, the visitor replied, “You’d better think about it first.” The intruder then went to the back door of the residence and again rang a doorbell. She then got into a parked car that had two other women in it. The car took off, southbound, on Viro Road. No other clues to the identities of its occupants were reported.

Plans were announced for La Cañada’s first Harvest Moon Dance, a community-wide social event to be staged in October 1952 on a large portable dance floor set up on the junior high school’s football field, located adjacent to Cornishon Avenue. Proceeds would benefit the Youth House.
