Fiesta Days: How to celebrate Memorial Day weekend in LCF

Starting Friday, locals can celebrate Fiesta Days and Memorial weekend in La Cañada with a number of events, including a vintage car show and fireworks.

Here is the lineup for upcoming Memorial Day events:

Memorial Weekend Fiesta DaysMay 23 through 26. The La Cañada Flintridge Chamber of Commerce and Community Assn., joined by other local organizations, stages this event, which includes the following events:

Casino NightFriday, May 23, 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. The Community Center, 4469 Chevy Chase Drive. Call (818) 790-4353 for details.

Community Breakfast presented by the AM Kiwanis ClubSaturday, May 24, 8 to 11 a.m. Memorial Park, 1301 Foothill Blvd. Adult tickets are $7; Children 11 and under $3. Tickets are available at the LCF Chamber office, phone (818) 790-4289, or through members of the AM Kiwanis Club.

Vintage Car ShowSaturday, May 24, 8 to 11 a.m. Memorial Park, 1301 Foothill Blvd. Free.

Farmers MarketSaturday, May 24, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. 1346 Foothill Blvd., across the street from Memorial Park.

LCF Tournament of Roses Assn. Annual Open HouseSaturday, May 24, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. 4524 Hampton Road. Free.

Family Flick, “Frozen”Saturday, May 24, at about 8:30 p.m., or as soon as it is dark enough. Memorial Park, 1301 Foothill Blvd. Free. Bring blankets, chairs.

Family Dinner, Music and Fireworks DisplaySunday, May 25, beginning at 6 p.m. Memorial Park, 1301 Foothill Blvd. Dinner tickets are $15 adults; $5 for children and are available through the LCF Chamber office, phone (818) 790-4289. The La Cañada High School Jazz Band will perform beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Memorial ServiceMonday, May 26, 9 a.m. Memorial Park, 1301 Foothill Blvd. A tribute to members of the U.S. armed forces who gave their lives in service to this country. Veterans will be honored; dignitaries will be present.

ParadeMonday, May 26, beginning at 10:30 a.m. This year’s theme is “Home Grown.” Representatives of the LCF Tournament of Roses Assn. will serve as grand marshals. Foothill Boulevard, from Cornishon Avenue east to Gould Avenue.

Afternoon in the ParkMonday, May 26, noon to 3:30 p.m. Memorial Park, 1301 Foothill Blvd. Games, music, food court.

Music in the ParkMonday, May 26, 4 to 6 p.m. Captain Cardiac and the Coronaries. Free.

EXHIBITS

Trish KertesThrough June 1, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Descanso Gardens Heritage Art Gallery, 1418 Descanso Drive. An exhibit of Trish Kertes’ original oil paintings in the gallery located in the Boddy House. Kertes has been showing her work in the gardens for many years. She paints scenes of nature which reflect her love of beauty. She often paints “en plein air,” frequently at Descanso. KID PICKS

Baby-sitting classes offered at USC-VHHMay 31, June 28, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each date. USC Verdugo Hills Hospital, 1812 Verdugo Blvd. Each class is a single, one-time class held at the hospital. Students learn infant/child CPR, basic first aid, home/auto safety, accident prevention, telephone skills, safety tips, poison control information, fire/earthquake plans and other advice. Upon completion of the course, participants will receive an infant/child CPR participation card and a baby-sitting certificate. Class fee is $45 per person. Reservations are required. PERFORMANCE

Americana 2014Saturday, May 24, 8 p.m. La Cañada Presbyterian Church, 626 Foothill Blvd. The Chancel Choir and LCPC Orchestra, featuring more than 100 singers and musicians, will combine to present “Somebody Died for Me,” as well as the popular “Armed Forces Medley,” during which the services songs of each branch will be performed and veterans will be urged to stand for the appreciative applause of the audience. Directed by Jack Lantz. Tickets, which are $15 ($20 reserved), are available in advance by calling Tina Tong at (818) 790-6708, Ext. 251, or at the church office. They will also be sold at the door.
