Flintridge Prep dedicates plaza

During a small ceremony held May 31 on the Flintridge Prep campus, the David S.K. Lee Family Plaza was dedicated in honor of a $750,000 gift to the school from David and Katherine Lee.

“The senior lawn and patio have long been considered sacred by seniors,” stated Headmaster Peter Bachmann, when announcing the location for Saturday’s ceremony. “Now these spaces will be the symbolic center of human development on Flintridge Prep’s campus.”

The Lees have two children attending Prep this year, daughter Rachel, a senior who was preparing to attend the school’s 81st Baccalaureate service that evening, and son Ryan, who graduated from the eighth grade on Tuesday.

The gift was one of the largest in the school’s history, according to spokesperson Nicole Trevor, and establishes the David and Katherine Lee Family Leadership Program. Leadership retreats, peer counseling, student government and the Athletic Council on Leadership will all benefit from the endowment.

“The Lees have long appreciated the school’s senior leadership and mentoring focus... Their gift will help the school integrate the seventh and eighth grades completely into the high school experience,” Bachmann stated.

David Lee is the chairman and chief executive of Hing Wa Lee Group, which includes Hing Wa Lee Jewelers, Collectible Exotic Motors-Vintage Ferraris, Brilliant Realty & Management Co., HWL Real Estate Holdings & Development Co., HWL Entrepreneurial Investment Co.
